Case Report of Gallstone Ileus- CT Findings Before and After Small Bowel Obstruction

Abstract

Gallstone ileus is a rare complication of cholelithiasis that occurs in about 1-4% of all cases of small bowel obstruction. Timely recognition and intervention are crucial for improving patient outcomes since it is associated with high morbidity and mortality. CT is the method of choice for diagnosis because it shows with high accuracy the location of the impacted stone in the intestinal tract, the distension of the small bowel proximal to the stone and the presence of pneumobilia.
