Abstract

In this paper, we raise the issue of the use of intellectual property rights in the craft enterprise. Through a study on 24 French craft enterprises that have resorted to intellectual property rights, achieved between July 2008 and May 2009, we try to understand the reasons that have led them to make use of them. These case studies also give the possibility to put into light the advantages and the limits of them for the craft enterprise as well as the particular use that it makes of them. The protection of the intellectual patrimony is an important element for craft enterprises. However, the use of intellectual property rights (constitution of protection portfolio, defensive or reputation strategy) are not very different from the way small scale enterprises make use of it.
