Precios, oferta monetaria y crecimiento económico en la nueva granada de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII

Abstract

La historiografía económica reciente señala que la Nueva Granada experimentó un alto crecimiento económico durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Este artículo examina algunas variables que pudieron afectar dicho crecimiento: precios, oferta monetaria y tasas de interés. Con base en las exportaciones netas de numerario y la ecuación cuantitativa del dinero se estima la oferta monetaria, que permite analizar la tendencia de varios indicadores macroeconómicos. Los resultados indican un alto crecimiento de la moneda a disposición del público y de los precios, una disminución de la velocidad de circulación y de diversas tasas de interés.
