Abstract
En este trabajo se analiza empíricamente si tras una oferta pública de adquisición (OPA) se producen reducciones significativas en el número de empleados de las empresas adquiridas y cuáles son sus factores determinantes. A partir de una muestra de 67 empresas españolas no financieras que fueron objeto de OPA durante 1990-2000 se constata una variación mayoritariamente negativa en el número de empleados de dichas empresas. Estas reducciones resultan más probables en las empresas de mayor tamaño, menor rentabilidad y productividad laboral antes de la OPA y en las que se producen cambios en la cúpula directiva tras la OPA.
