Abstract

This study presents an experimental investigation of the thermodynamics performance (efficiency) of a closed-loop vertical and horizontal earth-to-air heat exchanger (underground air tunnel) in the heating mode. The experimental system was commissioned in June 2009 and the data have been collected since then. The data, consisting of hourly measurement records for heating periods between 2009 and 2016, were measured at the Solar Energy Institute of the Bornova Campus at Ege University. At the present time, the database contains more than 80,000 records of measurements. First and second law efficiency values of the system and its components have been analyzed. Monthly and yearly average energetic and exergetic efficiencies of the system and its components at various reference states are also determined.
