Batterierecycling: Klimaschutz beginnt bei den Rohstoffen

Abstract

Die Elektrifizierung des Verkehrs erhöht den Bedarf an Lithium, Nickel und Kobalt signifikant. Gleichzeitig verursacht die Herstellung der Fahrzeugbatterien einen großen Teil der Emissionen im Lebenszyklus eines Elektroautos, das im Betrieb emissionsfrei ist. Durch ein effizientes Batterierecycling können beide Herausforderungen adressiert werden, sodass Elektrofahrzeuge und deren Batterien klimafreundlicher werden. Werden die Batterien der bis 2045 in Europa neu zugelassenen Elektroautos am Ende ihres Lebenszyklus recycelt, lassen sich verglichen mit der Primärmaterialherstellung knapp 385 Millionen Tonnen CO₂ sparen.
