Abstract

Point-&-Click-Adventures (PCAs) zählen zu den prägenden Spielgenres der Heimcomputer- und PC-Geschichte der 1980er- und 1990er-Jahre, konnten sich auf Spielkonsolen jedoch nie in vergleichbarer Weise etablieren. Dieses Discussion Paper untersucht die Ursachen dieser asymmetrischen Entwicklung und analysiert PCAs als plattformspezifische Interaktionssysteme. Im Fokus stehen historische Entwicklungsphasen von Konsolen-PCAs, zentrale Steuerungs- und Interface-Probleme sowie wirtschaftliche Rahmenbedingungen. Auf Basis einer Auswertung von n = 92 PCAs, die zwischen 1988 und 2024 für Konsolen erschienen sind, zeigt der Beitrag, dass PCAs auf Konsolen nur unter spezifischen technischen und kulturellen Voraussetzungen zeitweise erfolgreich waren. Die begrenzte Etablierung des Genres erweist sich dabei als Ergebnis eines historisch PC-gebundenen Interface-Paradigmas, das sich nur eingeschränkt in konsolenspezifische Interaktions- und Nutzungskontexte übertragen ließ.
