Abstract

Vor dem Hintergrund der stark steigenden Preise (Inflation März 2022: 6,8%, prognostizierte Jahresinflation 2022: 5,8%) stellt der Beitrag die Frage nach den Auswirkungen steigender Lebenshaltungskosten auf Armutsgefährdung der Bevölkerung in Österreich. Es wird gezeigt, dass es keine unmittelbaren Veränderungen in der Armutsgefährdungsquote gibt, da dieser Indikator die Einkommenslage der Haushalte zum Bezugspunkt hat. Die Auswirkungen sind vielmehr indirekte: Durch die unterschiedlichen Konsumniveaus als auch die Konsumausgabenstrukturen der Haushalte in Abhängigkeit ihrer Einkommen sind Haushalte mit geringeren Einkommen, und damit armutsgefährdete oder arme Haushalte, stärker von den Preissteigerungen betroffen. Bei einer mittelfristigen Betrachtung zeigen vor allem die steigenden Preise im Bereich Wohnen einen Druck auf den Lebensstandard von einkommensschwachen Haushalten.
