Abstract

This study investigates the main determinants of Brazilian inflation from January 2010 to December 2022. An autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model was estimated, and a historical contextualization was carried out to examine the dynamics of these determinants during the period studied. The results suggest that the strength and direction of the impacts of the variables in explaining Brazilian inflation have been influenced by adverse factors in the recent period, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and government interference in fuel prices during the Dilma (2011-2015) and Bolsonaro (2018-2022) governments.
