Abstract

No mundo todo, o estudo da ligação entre as medidas antropométricas e o emprego avançou nos últimos anos. Neste trabalho, buscamos estimar o efeito da obesidade no salário usando dados brasileiros oriundos da POF. Na especificação sem controles encontramos que o aumento de uma unidade no IMC está associado a um aumento de 4,7% no salário-hora entre homens e uma redução de 0,6% no salário-hora entre mulheres. Ao adicionar variáveis de controle este efeito se reduz a 1,9% entre homens e torna-se não significativo entre mulheres. Além de trazer novos resultados, este trabalho revê as estratégias já usadas pela literatura internacional para lidar com a endogeneidade da medida de obesidade na equação do salário.
