Abstract

This paper was produced in the framework of the research project “La Inmigracion y el Sistema de Partidos” (ISISPA), coordinated by Carmen González-Enríquez, Facultad de Ciências Politicas, UNED, Spain, and funded by the Comisión Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnologia, Spain. The project, which lasted from 2007 to 2008, adopted an international perspective, studying the cases of Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. The full version of the paper, as well as others produced in the same framework, will be published in Spanish. A condensed version of the papers was published in European Journal of Migration and Law, Volume 11, Nº 2, 2009 (special issue on “Comparing the New Hosts of Southern Europe”, ed. by Carmen González-Enríquez and Anna Triandafyllidou).
