Abstract

This study analyzes the position of Romania in the context of European Union from the perspective of the transition to a green economy and demographic changes. Starting from the reality of imbalances caused by economic growth policies uncorrelated with environmental protection, the study highlights the importance of the green transition as a strategic solution to current global challenges. The analysis is based on economic and environmental indicators, such as GDP/PPP, CO2 emissions and the share of renewable energy, in parallel with relevant demographic aspects. The results highlight three clusters of EU countries: developed economies with high emissions; developed countries with effective green transition policies; and countries with less developed economies, including Romania. The study recommends the formulation of policies linking investments in sustainable infrastructure with measures to boost demographic and social stability, in line with the 2030 Agenda goals.
