Abstract

The paper states the necessity of reforming single-industry towns in Russia. Based on the analysis of socio-economic problems of development in single-industry towns in the Saratov and Rostov regions the authors claim that it is vitalto transform them into multi-industry towns. It is necessary to reduce dependence on single employer through the development of other industries and attracting other types of business. It is proved that developing a strategy to diversify the economy of single-industry towns will achieve stability in the socio-economic development and help overcome economic crisis.
