Abstract

As the absolute scale of the Korean economy has rapidly expanded over the past few decades, its industrial structure has also changed at a very rapid pace. However, as growth has stagnated and corporate restructuring delayed in recent years, the pace of change in the industrial structure is slowing down noticeably. This study explores how Korea’s industrial structure has changed since 1970, and examines how the speed and direction of structural change in Korea differ from major advanced countries. The work concludes by describing the implications that such findings carry.
