Abstract

Este artigo apresenta os desenvolvimentos no processo de aprofundamento da União Económica e Monetária, esclarecendo os argumentos económicos e identificando as escolhas que levaram ao seu atual desenho institucional. Complementarmente, é feita uma análise crítica das diferentes propostas de reforma em discussão, pretendendo-se identificar a forma mais eficiente de, numa perspetiva de longo prazo, assegurar o bom funcionamento da união monetária.
