Sukupolvien elinkaarien tulo- ja varallisuuspolut: minne nuorten polku vie?

Abstract

Tarkastelemme sukupolvien tulo- ja varallisuuskehitystä Tilastokeskuksen rekisteriaineistojen sekä tilastotietokantojen avulla ja arvioimme, onko nuorten huolelle taloudellisesta tulevaisuudestaan tilastollisia perusteita. Tulokehityksen osalta löydämme perusteita rationaaliselle optimismille: reaalitulojen heikko kehitys vuodesta 2013 alkaen on koetellut kaikkia sukupolvia tasapuolisesti, eikä nykyinen nuori sukupolvi näytä jäävän pysyvästi jälkeen vanhemmista sukupolvista elinkaaren tulokehityksessä. Varallisuuden osalta kuva on heikompi, ja asuntohintojen kehitys tulee isolta osin ratkaisemaan tilanteen. Merkittävin huolenaihe on koulutustason aleneminen viimeisimmillä kohorteilla, sillä koulutus on edelleen erinomaiseksi osoittautunut sijoitus – niin yksilölle kuin kansantaloudelle. Koulutuspanostuksista päättävät ennen kaikkea poliitikot, joihin nuorten luottamus on ollut kasvussa.
