Abstract

Sejak tahun 1992, perbankan syariah telah beroperasi secara paralel dengan perbankan konvensional dalam menjalankan fungsi sebagai lembaga intermediari, baik dalam rangka pengumpulan dan penyaluran dana maupun kegiatan jasa perbankan lainnya. Dengan karakteristik produk dan jasa keuangan yang berbeda dari perbankan konvensional, keberadaan perbankan syariah telah membuka peluang yang lebih besar bagi masyarakat untuk menetapkan pilihan simpanan dan investasi dalam portfolio mereka. Salah satu produk yang ditawarkan perbankan syariah adalah deposito mudharabah. Studi ini mencoba mengkaji perilaku menabung masyarakat dalam deposito mudharabah dengan memperhatikan pengaruh bagi hasil yang ditawarkan deposito tersebut. Seiring dengan itu juga akan dianalisa dampak fatwa MUI tentang keharaman bunga terhadap perubahan perilaku menabung masyarakat dalam deposito bank syariah. Berdasarkan analisa yang dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa secara keseluruhan, dalam periode studi bagi hasil yang ditawarkan bank syariah bukan lagi merupakan faktor dominan yang memengaruhi perilaku menabung masyarakat dalam deposito. Namun dengan memecah periode studi menjadi dua periode untuk mengetahui dampak fatwa MUI ditemukan bahwa dalam periode sebelum fatwa MUI, perilaku menabung masyarakat dalam deposito bank syariah tidak terpengaruh dengan perubahan bagi hasil. Sementara itu, dalam periode setelah fatwa, pilihan masyarakat untuk menempatkan dana deposito pada bank syariah sangat dipengaruhi oleh perubahan bagi hasil. Merujuk pada hasil studi ini, kalangan perbankan syariah tidak cukup hanya mengandalkan pada pendekatan religius-emosional (halalharam) untuk mendorong minat menabung masyarakat. Pendekatan yang lebih profesional dengan memperhatikan rasionalitas nasabah juga harus digunakan. Selain itu, perbankan syariah perlu menawarkan produk-produk yang lebih inovatif tanpa mengabaikan aspek syari’ah compliance. Perluasan jaringan kantor dan perbaikan pelayanan adalah upaya lain yang tidak boleh diabaikan oleh perbankan syariah untuk menjaring jumlah nasabah yang lebih besar.
