Abstract
Russian. English. The paper discusses ecological homes and eco-settlements as one of the acceptable projects for solving the problem of sustainable development, the basic principles of which were formulated at the UN conference in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The basic characteristics of such homes are described, which are reflected in their energy efficiency, efficiency in terms of water consumption and radical reduction in the generation of wastewater and solid waste, etc. As part of the intensively growing trend of designing and experimental construction of such homes, the advantages and possibilities of almost immediately starting the realization of such projects in rural communities, as opposed to urban areas where the existing communal and other infrastructure can be a big obstacle for such a thing, were pointed out. It was also pointed out the dangers of resistance that may occur during the implementation, or initiation, of such projects, primarily by large construction companies and the industry that produces traditional building materials.
