Abstract

The article summarizes the historical development of the European policy on migration since the establishment of the European Economic Community. The study introduces a classification of five stages of development based on the extent and deepness of the policy’s communitarization and the ways decisions in this field are being taken. Based on the discussion and analysis of these five development stages, including the current framework in the field introduced after the 2015 migrant crisis some conclusions on the future of the EU migration policy are drawn.
