Abstract

This report seeks to depict Honduras foreign sector trade performance and to identify the challenges in the framework of: the enforcement of the RD-CAFTA; the insertion of China into the world market; the elimination of the quotas over textile and garments as of January 2005; the perfecting of the Central American Customs Union, and the active participation of the country in the regional and multilateral trade negotiations. Main challenges faced by Honduras in relation to RD-CAFTA are: implementation and administration of the agreement; the transition process to free trade; and the need to alleviate the negative effects on the most vulnerable sectors. Therefore, the design and implementation of a complementary agenda is crucial as well as the strengthening of a sustainable competitiveness. These challenges become greater in view of the institutional weaknesses, human capital limitations, and scarcity of financial resources = Honduras tem diante de si novos e importantes desafios em matéria de comercio e integraçao.
