Acceso a fuentes de empleo, segregación residencial y resultados laborales de las mujeres en Bogotá

Abstract

Este documento busca explorar el efecto de la estructura espacial de Bogotá en la participación laboral y el desempleo femenino. En particular, se analiza si los resultados laborales de hombres y mujeres pueden explicarse por la estructura espacial de la ciudad, cuando se controla por las características individuales, los atributos del hogar y las particularidades del área de residencia. Para este propósito, se usa la Encuesta de Movilidad de Bogotá (EMB) de 2011. El principal reto empírico es minimizar el posible sesgo de endogeneidad que puede surgir por la relación entre la elección del lugar de residencia y los resultados laborales. La estrategia empírica que trata de resolver este problema consiste en limitar la muestra a personas que sean propietarias de vivienda (totalmente pagada o no), y comparar con los individuos que viven con sus padres. Los resultados indican que el acceso a fuentes de empleo tiene efectos importantes en la probabilidad de participar en el mercado laboral, pero ninguno en la probabilidad de desempleo. Por otra parte, la segregación residencial no tiene ningún efecto sobre los indicadores laborales evaluados.
