Abstract

Ambitionen med detta bidrag till projektet "Den starka statens fall. Svensk politisk kultur i förändring 1975-2000", är att diskutera vilken betydelse som demografiska förändringar kan ha haft för den förändring i svensk politisk kultur, som vi kallar för "den starka statens fall". Jag vill alltså försöka koppla en diskursiv förändring, i detta fall framväxten av ett nytt slags politisk kultur, till materiella förhållanden, i detta fall förändringar i demografisk struktur. Min tes är att demografiska förhållanden har spelat en viktig roll i formerande av svensk politisk kultur, såväl under den fas, då "den starka statens politiska kultur" tog form, som under de decennier, då denna kultur fösvagades och ersattes av en ny politisk diskurs. Den text som följer är ett första försök att formulera hur jag tänker mig att sambandet mellan å ena sidan demografi, och å andra sidan politisk kultur, skulle kunna analyseras. Utgångspunkten är min tidigare forskning, dels om den svenska välfärdsstatens formering, dels om demografi och samhällsekonomi. För fördjupning och referenser hänvisar jag i detta paper till mina tidigare arbeten.
