Abstract

La réduction du temps de travail est la grande affaire de l'année 1998, et il appartenait à l'OFCE d'apporter, comme il tente de le faire depuis toujours, des éléments de réflexion au débat qui va s'engager. Gérard Cornilleau, Eric Heyer et Xavier Timbeau ont tenté d'évaluer, aussi complètement qu'il était possible, les conséquences diverses que pouvait avoir sur l'emploi le passage aux 35 heures. Il convient de considérer les résultats de ces études avec la plus grande des modesties. Il s'agit d'explorations d'un continent nouveau - le partage du travail dans une société moderne, riche de surcroît - dans un contexte nouveau pour un pays industrialisé, celui du chômage de masse (...).
