Abstract

Die Wirtschaftsliteratur befasst sich mit den Herausforderungen einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung, geht aber selten auf die soziale Säule ein, da sie sich auf die Verflechtung zwischen der wirtschaftlichen und der ökologischen Säule konzentriert. Wenn die soziale Säule berücksichtigt wird, dann als Schnittstelle, die das Zusammenfügen der beiden anderen erleichtert. Wirtschaftliche Analysen betonen einhellig die Bedeutung dieser Verbindung, ob es nun um die Lebensbedingungen der Menschen oder die soziale Akzeptanz des Wandels hin zu einem ökologischen Übergang geht. Dennoch wird das Soziale in den Studien zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung kaum mehr als eine bloße Schnittstelle betrachtet. Das Soziale muss seinen angemessenen Platz in der Wirtschaftspolitik für nachhaltige Entwicklung finden. Um dies zu erreichen, ist es wichtig, diesen Pfeiler neu zu konzeptualisieren, indem man ihn in Resonanz mit den Themen bringt, die der nachhaltigen Entwicklung zugrunde liegen. Dies führt zu neuen Rechtfertigungen für öffentliche Politiken, die bislang außerhalb der nachhaltigen Entwicklung gedacht wurden.
