Abstract

This paper presents a critical appraisal of the approach used by the jury of the 2007- 2008 concours d'agrégation en sciences économiques as regards the evaluation of papers written in coauthorship. The agrégation is a centralized academic hiring procedure through which professors of economics are selected in France. We will demonstrate that no natural method exists in this domain. Consequently, we suggest to either abandon the idea that coauthorship has a particular value, or to choose a procedure, upon which the economists' community has agreed by consensus. This critical assessment might also be of interest for the evaluation of papers done in co-authorship by law researchers.
