Abstract

La comparaison des institutions du marché du travail dans les pays de l'Union européenne fait ressortir une grande diversité de fonctionnement et de régulation. Celle-ci constitue une source potentielle de divergence entre pays européens. À ce titre, elle pourrait être un obstacle au bon fonctionnement de l'Union Économique et Monétaire et nécessiter une certaine harmonisation. Toutefois, cette disparité institutionnelle doit pour cela effectivement conduire à des différences dans la formation des salaires et de d'emploi. Or, l'analyse empirique de l'ajustement des salaires et de l'emploi au niveau macro-économique donne une vision a priori plus homogène des situations entre pays. En outre, les différences d'ajustement entre pays européens ne recoupent pas les disparités institutionnelles. En particulier, des marchés du travail aux fonctionnements très différents, comme par exemple ceux du Royaume-Uni et des Pays-Bas, sont caractérisés par des réponses similaires des salaires et de l'emploi à l'environnement économique.
