Banques étrangères et stabilité du financement bancaire extérieur dans les peco

Abstract

Résumé Depuis la décennie 1990, entre 70 et 90 % des actifs du système bancaire des peco sont gérés par les banques étrangères implantées. Cette importante présence des banques étrangères se double d'une forte dépendance aux financements bancaires transfrontières. Dans quelle mesure l'implantation de banques étrangères est-elle un facteur d'attrait et de stabilité de ces financements extérieurs ? Nous utilisons un cadre d'analyse Push&Pull pour répondre à cette question et adoptons une démarche macroéconomique, contrairement à la littérature traditionnelle, en utilisant les données de la balance des paiements sur les prêts bancaires extérieurs accordés par les banques étrangères à l'ensemble des secteurs d'activité des peco . Sur la base d'une étude de panel, nous montrons que l'implantation des banques étrangères dans les peco est un substitut aux financements bancaires transfrontières. Elle ne joue cependant pas sur la stabilité de ces financements.
