Abstract

According to the philosopher and sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, the modern liquid society is one of ephemerality, of the dilution of social ties, and of a consumerist relationship to work. Apart from this last dimension, extant organizational literature has not yet clarified the future of employees in such a context. The study of Michel Houellebecq's novels and poetry allows us to complete and clinically analyze the destiny of the liquid employee, prisoner of a constantly renewed present within organizations and where the only way to escape solitude is to engage in the vicious circle of frenzied consumption in which they are both a stakeholder and a victim.
