Abstract

Le processus d'acquisition du capital humain revêt une importance primordiale pour le développement des sociétés. Cependant, il demeure largement méconnu malgré sa pertinence indéniable. Anastasia Litina, professeur associée à l'université de Macédoine, et Èric Roca Fernández, professeur assistant au Centre d'études et de recherches sur le développement international (CERDI, UMR6587, CNRS / Université Clermont Auvergne), ont cherché à comprendre l'un des possibles déterminants profonds du développement précoce du capital humain parmi les sociétés prémodernes : la curiosité. Étant donné la difficulté à mesurer directement la curiosité, ils ont privilégié l'étude d'un déclencheur potentiel, notamment les phénomènes naturels inhabituels comme les éclipses solaires. Les résultats de leurs travaux ont donné lieu à la parution d'un article dans The Economic Journal.
