Abstract

The analysis of women labour supply in France and Japan is conducted over the period 1992‐2007 from comparable employment surveys. Labour supply of Japanese women is more dependent on the spouse's employment and income situation than those of French women although this dependency tends to weaken during the period. Several reforms regarding family policy and labour market deregulation implemented in the 90s contribute gradually to bring their activity behaviour closer to that of French ones, however with strong tensions.
