Abstract

Pelardon PDO was obtained in 2000. Different strategies are adopted by the actors to valorise this sign. The majority of small producers do not enter the PDO process. The benefits of the PDO are very different from one channel to another. The main result of the PDO is to protect the traditionnal production area, to standardize the production sold via supermarkets outside of the area, and to diferenciate typic product on far "niche" markets . This questions the relevance of PDO as means of local development.
