Abstract

A partir du cas du soja tolérant à l'herbicide glyphosate, l'article analyse un certain nombre de facteurs agro-économiques qui expliquent la progression rapide des cultures transgéniques aux Etats-Unis alors qu'elles étaient en 2001 assez peu développées ailleurs et rejetées dans certains pays. En premier lieu, on passe en revue les surfaces en cultures transgéniques dans le monde et aux Etats-Unis. Puis, on examine divers facteurs agro-économiques à l'origine de la diffusion rapide du soja tolérant au glyphosate aux Etats-Unis. Divers aspects environnementaux et sanitaires sont aussi abordés. On s'interroge in fine sur les perspectives des cultures transgéniques aux Etats-Unis en relation avec la question des débouchés sur certains marchés.
