Abstract

Le transfert des biens agricoles d'une génération à l'autre peut être à l'origine de difficultés financières importantes. Les études basées sur la théorie néo-classique de la firme impliquent que ces difficultés financières n'ont pas d'effet sur l'investissement et la croissance des exploitations, contrairement à l'observation. Le modèle de cycle de vie du ménage agricole, avec contraintes d'endettement et coûts d'ajustement, permet de faire dépendre l'investissement de la structure financière et des préférences du ménage. Ce modèle est appliqué aux exploitations laitières néerlandaises en centrant l'attention sur deux mécanismes de transfert : l'achat immédiat et total de tous les biens, et le transfert total des biens, mais avec achat progressif.
