Abstract

Suivant les recommandations de l'OMS pour la lutte contre le tabagisme, les autorités françaises ont décidé la mise en œuvre de l'apposition de 14 « photos chocs » sur les paquets de cigarette, à partir de 2011. Ce travail s'intéresse à l'efficacité d'une telle mesure. A cette fin, une série de 12 messages sanitaires a été projetée à un échantillon de 418 étudiants en 1ère année de médecine d'une faculté privée. Nous montrons que les pictogrammes les plus efficaces sont ceux qui concernent le fumeur lui-même : ils doivent être explicites et relatifs à un stade avancé de la maladie, mais sans évoquer la mort elle-même. Par ailleurs, les images chocs semblent davantage de nature à conforter les non fumeurs dans leur choix qu'à dissuader les fumeurs de mettre un terme à leur consommation.
