Abstract

It exists in France an original tool to allow PhD students to make their PhD at the same time in a public laboratory and in a firm : the CIFRE fellowships. We present in this article the results of a survey made by questionnaire at the destination of the different actors of the CIFRE convention. This survey examines the organisational mechanism which allows universities and firms to collaborate thanks to the joint direction of the student. The results of the survey show that the PhD student plays a role of mediator between the scientific and the industrial world and allow a bilateral knowledge transfer between the two institutions. We also underline the important role of the informal relationships between the different partners because they let a common knowledge creation.
