Abstract

(VA) With legislation passed in July 1999, the lawmaker has aimed at supporting research by encouraging entrepreneurship amongst researchers. French researchers working in public laboratories are also civil servants and mostly do not feel concerned with entrepreneurship. The path followed by researchers to become entrepreneurs stimulates many questions. We examine this situation by combining two theoretical frames:the theory of social networks and «Les économies de la grandeur». They will help us to highlight the social embeddedness of researchers, and how undoing the latter may be managed by the researchers.
