Abstract

While we already know a good deal about the distribution of earnings of Canadians in any given year and how the situation has changed over the last couple of decades, our understanding of earnings dynamics - how individuals' earnings vary from one year to the next or oevr longer periods of time - has remained quite limited. This paper examines how individuals' earnings mobility varies with the length of the interval considered, the specific time period covered, the starting point in the earnings distribution, and age and sex.
