Abstract

En Amérique Latine, la population est en grande majorité urbaine. Dès 1990, soixante-douze pour cent des habitants de la région résidaient dans les villes (figure 1). D'ici 2020, la population urbaine pourrait atteindre 83%. Au fil de son urbanisation, la région est confrontée aux problèmes de pauvreté, nutrition et santé qui diffèrent quelque peu des problèmes d'une population plus rurale. Trente-cinq pour cent des citadins sont économiquement faibles...Les villes d'Amérique Latine sont en mesure de progresser sensiblement vers l'éradication de la malnutrition et de l'insécurité alimentaire d'ici l'an 2020 en se penchant plus particulièrement sur l'interaction entre la malnutrition et la santé, et en amenant la participation des citoyens et des communautés dans l'élaboration de nouveaux réseaux locaux de prestation de soins.
