Abstract

The rules-based trading system is under strain. What are the origins of the stresses on the existing trade regime? How are the US, China, the EU and the UK responding to the policy challenges they now face? What is the future of the WTO and the global trading system? The articles collected in this issue address these questions. In doing so they highlight the importance of the present moment for the future of global trade. Decisions taken in coming years will be consequential for decades to come as they shape what new trading order emerges from the current crisis.
