Abstract

With SOEP's 2007 data release, a number of changes and additions have been made in the cross-sectional weighting scheme. They apply to the following:. - - Inclusion of refreshment sample H.. - - Classification of West Berlin as belonging to the "new" federal states (of former East Germany).. - - Slight modification of the sample framework.. - - Construction of wave-specific weighting variables, where the weights for households from new samples are set to zero in order to avoid problems that may arise when ask-ing respondents about complex issues in their first survey year. This helps in particular in avoiding discontinuities between time series.. - An overview of the household and individual weights used in SOEP for representative cross-sectional analyses are provided in tabular form.
