Les Belges propriétaires de leur logement restent-ils plus longtemps au chômage ?

Abstract

Plus de 70 % des ménages belges sont propriétaires de leur logement. Un chiffre qui situe notre pays dans le peloton de tête du classement européen. Dans ce numéro de Regards économiques, nous présentons les résultats d’une étude belge récente dont l’objectif est de mesurer l’effet causal de la propriété immobilière sur la durée passée en chômage. Cette étude révèle que les propriétaires qui ont fini de rembourser leur emprunt restent le plus longtemps inoccupés, au contraire des propriétaires qui présentent des caractéristiques similaires mais qui sont encore en charge d’un emprunt immobilier à rembourser. La durée d’inoccupation des locataires occupe une position intermédiaire.
