Pourquoi le fédéralisme?

Author

Abstract

Federalism is first posed as one among many conceivable forms of organization of a State. Economic benefits and costs are considered next and discussed. Finally, the federal institution is taken up from the point of view of the decision processes that operate within it. A basic distinction is introduced bearing upon the nature and the alternative forms of cooperation between federated entities, in a federal framework. This distinction is claimed to also enlighten the relations between the concepts of federation and confederation. Classification JEL : H1, H7, K19, P35
