Abstract

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) represent largest number of organizations in global economy. On current international accounting standardization process promoted by IASB, the International Financial Reporting Standard for Medium Entities, IFRS-SME Small was issued. This standard adopts approach of IFRS for listed companies, which aims to produce useful information for decision-making in financial markets. SMEs do not operate in such markets and decision-making processes of their owners are different from stockholders decisions. It is therefore relevant to ask Can the accounting regulation of IASB promote accounting and financial information useful for decision making and productivity in MSMEs? The paper aims to propose a characterization of approach, constraints and challenges imposed by current international accounting regulation, for accounting to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. This work follows a critical and normative point of view. The paper characterizes economic financialization process and its relationship with international accounting regulation. Later it analyzes some meso, macro and microeconomic conditions of MSMEs and certain challenges facing the accounting regulation for these companies. In particular, the article draws attention to the need for differentiation of decisions-making for stockholders, shareholders, owners, managers and entrepreneurs.
