¿Persistencia o convergencia en las condiciones de vida en la Costa Caribe entre 1985 y 2005?

Abstract

El presente documento evalúa la hipótesis de convergencia en indicadores sociales en la región Caribe durante el período 1985-2005 y contrasta los resultados obtenidos con los patrones de convergencia en el resto del país, usando el índice de Necesidades Básicas Insatisfechas a nivel municipal como una medida alterna de prosperidad económica. Para ello se evalúa la hipótesis de convergencia tipo Beta con la estimación de densidades en dos y tres dimensiones. Los resultados indican que no existe evidencia que respalde la hipótesis de convergencia en la costa Caribe colombiana y, además, sugieren persistencia en sus condiciones de vida y un proceso de polarización de éstas en el país.
