¿Crecer para exportar o exportar para crecer?

Abstract

Este documento investiga la validez de la hipótesis de crecimiento económico basado en el incremento de las exportaciones empleando datos anuales para el Valle del Cauca durante el periodo 1960 - 2000. No se encuentra evidencia suficiente para validar la relación causal que supone la hipótesis de crecimiento económico basado en exportaciones. Se emplea un modelo VAR que incluye la producción y exportaciones departamentales, y dos variables de control, producción nacional y tasa de cambio real. Los resultados obtenidos suponen una relación causal que va de producción a exportaciones. Las funciones de impulso respuesta estimadas indican que la producción en el Valle del Cauca genera un impacto positivo en las exportaciones mientras que el hecho contrario no ocurre. Los resultados obtenidos para el Valle del Cauca son consistentes con los obtenidos a nivel nacional.
