Composición de la economía de la región Eje Cafetero de Colombia

Abstract

El Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) del Eje Cafetero ha disminuido su contribución en la actividad económica nacional en las últimas décadas hasta representar durante 2001 – 2010 el 4,1%. Desde sus inicios, la región se caracterizó por la dependencia del cultivo de café, el cual tuvo mayor relevancia en los setenta con la bonanza cafetera; sin embargo, desde ese periodo hasta la última década el sector primario redujo su participación en 12 puntos porcentuales (pp), lo que dio paso a que el terciario ganara importancia dentro de la economía del Eje, con un aporte de más del 50% en los tres departamentos que la componen, destacándose por las actividades de servicios a las empresas, administración pública, comercio, actividades inmobiliarias y turismo. Entre tanto, el sector secundario constituyó la cuarta parte del PIB del Eje Cafetero, sobresaliendo principalmente por las actividades industriales de alimentos, y maquinaria y equipo, con mayor representatividad en Caldas y Risaralda.
