Los alemanes en el Caribe Colombiano: el caso de Adolfo Held, 1880-1927

La bonanza tabacalera que tuvo Colombia a partir de la d�cada de 1850 impuls� la llegada de casas comerciales y agencias de navegaci�n alemanas a Barranquilla. Adem�s, para la misma �poca se present� un abaratamiento de los fletes mar�timos de algunas compa��as europeas, lo que signific� un impulso al comercio y a la migraci�n desde Alemania. En las �ltimas d�cadas del siglo pasado, las firmas alemanas de mayor actividad econ�mica en Barranquilla fueron, entre otras, las de J. Helm, O.Berne, Hoenisberg & Wessels, M�ller & Siefken, Hollman & Merkel, Aepli & Eberbach y Gieseken & Held. En este trabajo estudiaremos en detalle la experiencia empresarial de Adolfo Held en Colombia y en especial en la Costa Caribe. En la medida que Held fue uno de los comerciantes alemanes m�s activos de los que se radicaron en Barranquilla en las �ltimas d�cadas del siglo XIX, su caso ilustra muchas facetas de la actividad empresarial de los alemanes en la historia econ�mica de esta regi�n del pa�s.
