Abstract

En el presente documento se discute el concepto de banca virtual y sus etapas recientes de evolución en los mercados financieros internacionales, al tiempo que se muestra la evolución de la banca virtual en Colombia a la luz de cifras recopiladas por la Asobancaria. Posteriormente se examinan los principales riesgos asociados a la banca virtual, para finalizar con un análisis de la regulación de este nuevo negocio. La discusión se aborda tomando como base los pilares adoptados por el nuevo Acuerdo de Basilea: estabilidad del sector financiero, promoción de la competencia y protección del consumidor
