Metodología y resultados de la mensualización del PIB sectorial trimestral en el período 1996-2008

Abstract

El Banco Central de Chile (BCCh) elabora mediciones de actividad económica en distintas frecuencias. Es así como, en el marco de las cuentas nacionales, compila el Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) real y nominal, en periodicidad anual y trimestral. Adicionalmente, elabora el Índice Mensual de Actividad Económica (Imacec) a precios del año base, como una señal anticipada de la evolución del PIB que resultará del cálculo de las cuentas nacionales trimestrales (CNT). Ambas mediciones difieren en cuanto a la apertura sectorial con que se publican; mientras el Imacec es un indicador agregado, el PIB trimestral se publica con una apertura de 20 actividades económicas, las Imputaciones Bancarias, Derechos de Importación e IVA. Considerando la utilidad de disponer de información mensual sectorial, este documento presenta la metodología del Departamento de Cuentas Nacionales para la estimación de series mensuales históricas coherentes con los cierres del PIB trimestral, con un desglose de actividades idéntico al publicado en las CNT. Los resultados combinan la fortaleza estructural y contable de los datos del PIB trimestral publicados, con la información contenida en indicadores de frecuencia mensual, mediante el uso de técnicas de desagregación temporal de series económicas de distinta frecuencia (benchmarking). Las series de actividad económica mensual cubren el período 1996-2008 y constituyen un aporte en lo que respecta al conocimiento de la estacionalidad y efectos calendario de las series sectoriales, así como en lo que se refiere al conocimiento de la estructura de ponderaciones del año anterior.
