Abstract

This article organizes and analyzes, in a descriptive manner, data from the 2023 Census of the CNPq Research Groups Directory, focusing on the forms of interaction and modes of remuneration between research groups and their partners by broad area of knowledge. A comparison with the last Census of 2016 reveals that the growth of research groups and interactions was uneven across the major areas of knowledge, with significant growth in long-term scientific research activities and an expansion in consulting and staff training activities. Similarly, the main form of remuneration is risk-based, which increased its share in the period investigated. There has been an increase in academic partnerships identified by the 2023 Census, which highlights the need to reformulate the information collection instrument to improve the recording of interactions and remuneration currently classified as “other.”
